Our brains are our computers. If we stop the
flow of blood to our brain, it will become
damaged and will affect the use of the area
affected.
What causes strokes ?
This is similar to the plumbing problem we spoke
of in our heart disease section. All
arteries to the brain must be clean and free, so
anything related to restricting the blood flow
will increase your likelihood of having a
stroke.
High Blood Pressure - 140/90 or
higher. Always have your BP checked !
Smoking- Nicotine and carbon
monoxide in your blood reduces the level of
oxygen
High Cholesterol 240mg/dl and above
Diabetes Too much blood sugar
126mg/dL
Carotid or other artery disease
Blocked arteries caused by bad diet
Arterial fibrillation - when the
upper chambers of the heart quiver instead
of pumping
Sickle Cell Disease genetic
disorder of the red blood cells
Physically inactive causes high
blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart
disease
Obesity Causes strain on the
heart causing blood flow to the brain to
reduce.
How to we avoid strokes ?
We use our intelligence !The answer is quite obvious.
Become active perform some
aerobic activity 3 times/week 20-30 minutes
Eat healthy Fresh fruit &
vegetables,
low fat protein like fish & white meats,
reduce salt intake, eat high fiber foods, no
trans or saturated fats.
Stop smoking Get help. Stopping is
critical to your survival
Stop eating junk food.- Reduce
intake of process white foods, fried foods
and fatty foods. The days of fast food
and donuts are out !
There is research suggesting that we should take
1 aspirin each day which will keep our blood
thin and will help us avoid heart attacks and
strokes. Remember Aspirin is a natural
substance. Do not use substitutes.
